Guidelines for requesting support

Welcome to the Tarski support forum. We have a few guidelines we’d like you to follow when submitting support requests.

Don’t ask for help with general WordPress problems. There’s an official forum for that—this one is just for Tarski issues.
Make sure you’re using the latest version of Tarski, as we may already have fixed your problem. We also don’t support other versions of Tarski such as the Canvas version or that hosted on WordPress.com.
Read the documentation before posting here. The chances are that your question is answered by something in there.
Run your code through the W3 validator first if you’ve got layout glitches—most of these problems are caused by HTML errors.

Post your site URL so we can take a look at the problem ourselves.

Follow these simple guidelines and you’ll make everyone’s life easier, including your own. :)

Home page only showing single post?

Recently upgraded up to WP 3.0 and to Tarski 2.7.1 and now the blog home page defaults to a single post, doesn’t display multiple posts. Here’s the site with the issue. Any ideas?

Child Theme vs Custum Style Sheet

I've been using a custom style so far but want to change to a child theme. Alas, Tarski won't let me. Whatever I do in the child them style gets overruled by the still existent custom style. If I delete the custom thing all width declaration for body and wrapper default to screen.css.

How do I get over that screen thingy?

Overriding min-width

There seems to be something odd about the screen.css settings.
This piece in a custom style works fine

Default layout for images

Hi,

When I import a picture in a post I manually adapt the layout and the size to fit the theme.
Pictures are shown 490px on the long side and have a white border of 5px.

Is there a way of automating this by forcing it in the custom style css?

I am setting up my new site, and would love localization for Norwegian. Have downloaded the nb_NO.mo file for tarski 2.4 (the latest version I found) and uploaded to the tarski directory at my host.

Nothing seems changed - what am I doing wrong?

IMAGES IN TARSKI 2.7.1

I run 2 sites utilizing the tarski theme --- the photography site is running version 2.6, and the general blog site is running version 2.7.1 [just updated from version 2.6 --- currently in design stage].

I am using a custom css style for the images, which works perferectly in version 2.6, but is completely lost in version 2.7.1 [I did place the css code in both style sheets].

Problems with Tarski and WP 3.0 in multisite installations

I've discovered that admin users in multisites installation can't access the theme options page. Only super admins can do it.

The problem is described in these two threads of WordPress forums: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/wp-30-ms-users-cant-see-theme-options-pages and http://wordpress.org/support/topic/capability-manage_options-vs-edit_themes, with two different solutions. As you can see, edit_themes capability should be replaced by switch_themes (first thread) or manage_options capability (second thread).

I've taken the second solution and changed lines 53, 78, 104, 230 y 248 in /library/helpers/admin_helper.php. This way, admins in multisite blogs can manage their theme options page. Anyway, is this solution right?

A tiny suggestion to improve Tarski translations

In Tarski 2.7.1, you have the following code in archive.php file (line 58):

' . get_the_time('F Y') . '' ); ?>

With this tiny change, it's possible to translate the date of archive pages where they are displayed by months:

' . get_the_time(__('F Y', 'tarski')) . '' ); ?>

My recent spanish translation for Tarski 2.7.1 includes this improvement.

Widening the main column

I have a test blog on Wordpress.com and the Tarski theme was the default theme my blog was given (it was moved when Homeschoolblogger.com joined with Wordpress). In the picture of the Tarski theme on the theme page it looks as though the main column is very wide. There is a tiny little white border on each side and the main blog area looks to be very wide. However, on my actual blog it's only 6 1/2 inches wide (both columns together) leaving a good 5 1/2 inches of blank space (2 1/4 inches on each side). How can I get the main column to look like the picture of the Tarski theme on the theme page.

I looked through the forum page and found several posts with similar questions asking about widening the columns. However, reading the answers you gave was like reading greek. I had no idea what you were talking about. I do not know what a style sheet is or how to go about getting one. Can you help me out by giving me easier instructions? I don't understand anything I read here concerning making changes on one's blog. What I prefer is a "1. click this button 2. type "such and such" 3. go to such and such place by clicking this button.....etc." type of answer. Is this possible in this situation? I am just so frustrated! Please help or direct me to someone who can help people like me who do not understand the technical side of HTML.

polldaddy ratings not visible for posts pages

On http://bajki-zasypianki.pl I'm using Tarski 2,6 with PollDaddy Polls plugin. Since some time ago ratings on posts stopped displaying. They are ok for comments but not ok for posts. I've set them to display below each post and they are not there. See example http://bajki-zasypianki.pl/bajki/bajki-usypianki/ - below each comment they are visible but not below post.

Is this plugin bug or rather theme bug? My gut feeling it's rather the theme issue as ratings do show up in most of the places. Can you help?

Why does font color for blog title change colors

Changes in Header/Title of Website and RSS feeds

remove border around header image in IE

There's suddenly a border around the header image when viewed in Internet Explorer. It's not there in Firefox.

Fatal Error Upgrading Tarski

I've just upgraded to the latest versioin of Tarski and have the following error message.

The original theme was modified by my publishers which might explain the problem. I feel a bit of an idiot for pressin the upgrade button, but realised too late. I can access the files from FTP - what would you recommend I do? This is the message - I can't even access the dashboard either.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function add_theme_support() in /home/fhlinux138/7/7coreprinciples.co.uk/user/htdocs/wp-content/themes/tarski/app/launcher.php on line 75

Copyright on images included in the theme tarball?

Hey folks,

First off, thanks for a lovely theme! We're going to be using it for a library conference blog and we're quite fond of it. The code is under the GPL, but I didn't see any licensing information for the artwork. We'd like to use the splatter artwork for a print flyer for our conference but want to make sure we're on the level with being able to use the image legally outside of the theme.

IE7 Operation Aborted error

Hi,

We're using Wordpress within an IFrame on our website and have recently started using the "Hidden Comment Form" plug-in. Depending which item is clicked on our website (outside the IFrame), it will reload the url in the IFrame to point to a different Wordpress post.

On a test machine here with Vista and IE7 we're hitting a problem whereby when the IFrame loads the Wordpress post and then the Hidden Comment Form plug-in tries to hide the comment form itself, IE throws an "Operation Aborted" error - a classic error when you try to manipulate the DOM in some way.

BUT - we're only seeing this on one machine... many others with IE7 are working fine.

We deactivated the plug-in and the problem has gone away.

Has anyone seen this before or can help us in any way?

using 2 adjacent Capital Letters in 1st post title causes weird error

part of my first (most recent) Post title repeats with a > inserted between the repeated part (has something to do with ("class span uppercase" being assigned to two adjacent UPPERCASE characters). The title works normally with "P C" (space between characters) or if I use lowercase "pc" instead -- no repeat happens as the class span uppercase is not assigned. Any suggestions on fixing this ?

Header images with child theme.

I am using a child theme with Tarski as the parent theme. I have placed header images in the /themes/mychild/headers directory and they appear on the Tarski options page along with the header images located in the /themes/tarski/headers folder. I can select any of the images as the header and everything works as expected. Prior to creating the child theme, I was using an alternate style and placed my header images in the /themes/tarski/headers folder. After the automated creation of a blog, I used update_tarski_option('header','someheader.jpg') to set the initial header for the newly created blog. This worked just fine. Now that I am using a child theme, the update_tarski_option('header','someheader,jpg') call no longer produces the desired result. The url that is generated in the page is pointing to /themes/tarski/headers/someheader.jpg and not to /themes/mychild/headers/someheader.jpg where the image is located. Is there a way to set the header when it resides in the child theme and not in the parent theme?

Widgets in Tarski - Difference between blogs hosted on wordpress.com and self hosted blogs?

Hello,

I set up WordPress 2.9. with Tarski 2.6. for a client on his providers webspace, all fine. But he is telling me that in his other blog, that's hosted unter wordpress.com (also 2.9), the Tarski Theme (also 2.6) provides him with much more widgets than Tarski does in the blog I set up for him whose widgets area seems reduced. Am I missing something??

He is looking for "widgets" like "Flickr", "Gravatar", "Author Grid", "del.icio.us" and some more that don't appear in the blog set up on his own webspace. Are they Tarski widgets or does he mean /see something else?

I'd very much like to address this problem for him in a productive way, so thanks if somebody can clarify this to me.

Can't remove "blogroll" on Wordpress.com

We just created a site using the Tarski theme on wordpress.com and can't find a way to remove or edit what appears to be a blogroll widget on the left sidebar with a number of links already included. Is this a wordpress.com issue or am I just missing something basic in the dashboard? I've seen some documentation talking about a wp/themes directory but that isn't obvious to me either so I think I'm stuck. I'm also wondering if I can drop the Navbar under the header (not as important as the blogroll issue) Thanks!

DO NOT always show authors

You mention that by default, sites with only one publishing author will not have the author's name displayed with the posts, and that multiple author blogs will always show authors. I inadvertently created a second publishing author when I imported content from a "test" blog I was working on in .com mode because I forgot to map the other name we were using to the username associated with our new blog when I imported the content. Our intent is that there be only one publishing author and that no author name be displayed. When I realized the mistake post-import, I deleted the second user and redirected the transferred posts to the intended single publishing author. Although I have now returned to a single publishing author, the theme seems stuck in multiple author mode and is displaying the single author's name in the posts. How can I get back to NOT displaying the author after having made (and I thought, corrected) my mistake?
