Maybe if we share our tarski plugins we could find some useful things. In my case i have a very simple but effective plugin, so i don’t have to worry about hacking tarski core files

I’ve added what I hope is a useful tip about hijacking the Tarski sidebar.

A Note on Vanilla

What with all the kerfuffle lately, I felt I should chime in with a word about Vanilla, the open-source forum software that powers our forum. I discovered Vanilla when it was first released, and adding the Tarski forum was a great excuse to start using it for a live project. Since then I’ve been consistently impressed by its elegant design and plethora of extensions, and would highly recommend it to any site needing a small and low-maintenance forum.

The forum is down while we sort out a few software issues. Hopefully it’ll be back up before too long. Update: and we’re back. Did some maintenance while we were at it, too.

Translations Update

A number of eminently sensible forumgoers suggested we add the old translations back in to our legacy version of Tarski, so we did. An updated version of the translations file is also now available for download.

Tarski Links Widget Updated

I’ve just updated the Tarski Links Widget code to fix a small bug: categories with no visible entries are no longer displayed. This fix will go into 1.2.2 as well, as some quite similar code is used in a couple of places in the core code. Thanks to Helen for pointing this one out on the forum.

I’ve just updated the code again to make it compatible with WordPress 2.1. Let me know if there are any issues.

Jinkies’ Gallery

Roadmap Update

The roadmap has been updated to give a more accurate and complete picture of what’s going to be in 1.2, but I thought I’d write up a brief summary of where things stand and where we go from here.

Firstly, I’ve rewritten a fair amount of the CSS, to make it more flexible and extensible. Content areas (such as entries, comments and so on) are now denoted by the content class, while the two columns are referred to by primary and secondary classes. This replaces a large and disparate set of classes and ids, making the code cleaner and easier to extend and modify. Additional stylesheets, for example, should now be much easier to write.

Secondly, Chris has been working on the Tarski Options page, cleaning it up and improving it substantially. We hope that the new version will be easier and more intuitive to use.

There are also the usual raft of tweaks and improvements, including the much-requested pagination and next/previous links, better trackback and language support, and a new and improved loop.php file which should make modifications based on the Tarski code much easier to implement.

1.2 beta test

Because there are such substantial alterations to the code, we want to run a small test before releasing it publicly. Sign up for the 1.2 beta on this forum thread.

Canvas Tags modification

Tim De Smedt has posted a tag modification for the Canvas version of Tarski on the forum. Essentially, it improves the tags page that’s bundled with Tarski for Canvas. Great to see people posting their contributions on the forum.

Tarski Forum

As the number of people using Tarski has increased, so has the volume of support requests, and it’s getting quite messy and difficult to handle them in blog comments, so we’ve set up a forum.

We hope that some of you will hang around, post your alternate styles and modifications, and help other Tarski users with their problems. We want to carry on developing and improving Tarski, but we do need support from the community if we’re going to maintain our high standards and continue to provide a high level of support for our users.

All support requests should now be posted in the forum, not in blog comment threads.
